A family firm, literally
Ferrie Electrical Services is Matthew Ferrie's family firm. One standard, one surname on the van, and when you ring it is Matthew who picks up, or rings you straight back from the loft.
Matthew is the director and has been on the tools for over 25 years, from farmhouse rewires to medieval churches. He answers the phone, comes to look, writes the quote and does the work, so nothing gets lost between the person you spoke to and the person in your loft.
It is a family firm in the literal sense, and the family lend a hand when there is a hand to lend. The rest of the time, the person who quotes your job is the person who turns up and does it, which is the part customers actually care about.
The thing customers mention most is not the wiring, it is the communication: what time he is arriving, what happens next, what anything extra would cost, and whether the job is even worth doing. Sometimes the honest answer is that it is not, and you will get that answer for free.
Every job ends with the certificate in your hand and the place left the way we found it, minus the dodgy wiring.
"People sometimes ask why an electrician gets this worked up about light. Because I have watched what happens when a dark room comes right: kitchens, churches, and once in a while the person standing in them. Moving from the dark to the light is a journey I am on myself. Everyone takes it at their own speed."
The promise on every job
A free on-site visit first. Then an itemised quote in writing, before any work starts. Old buildings keep secrets, so if something unexpected turns up mid-job, you hear about it and agree the cost before any extra work happens. That is the whole trick, and it is amazing how rare it is.

You will probably meet Matthew in your loft. But on a good weekend he is more likely to be found in one of three places.
On the Triumph
Jacket and tie optional, but apparently preferred.
Somewhere around a 10K
With his daughter at the GEAR 10K. Both medals earned, both still speaking to each other.
And when the weather is against both, there is poker. He will tell you he is quite good at it. We have no way of verifying this.
